Flail bone flap in decompressive craniotomy for infants

چکیده
Background: Subdural hematoma in infants is a challenging condition. Acute subdural hematomas can cause intracranial hypertension and midline shift, but decompressive craniotomies young patients have shown promising results with specific complications this age group. Hinge craniotomy an old technique used many neurosurgical procedures associated elevated pressure. The objective of study to report the usage flail bone flap management acute infants, its outcome, advantages, disadvantages related complications. Methods: This review medical records 5 younger than one-year-old who underwent as at Mansoura university hospital. Results: In series, five babies were included. Operative time for (DC) ranged from 1 h 40 min 3 h. Four survived. Three recovered good outcomes one infant developed hemiparesis. Conclusion: use high success rate low incidence Large-based studies are still required better assessment results.

Craniotomy Flap Bone Cement Infections
Introduction Kryptonite® is calcium triglyceride bone cement designed for cranial use. Despite potential benefits, Kryptonite® lacks safety data addressing its possible association with post-surgical wound infections. Upon noting an acute rise in the number of post-craniotomy infections while using Kryptonite Bone Cement®, we investigated the hypothesis that using Kryptonite® increases the risk...

INTRODUCTION The estimated incidence of craniotomy infection is 5%, ranging from 1-11% depending on the presence of certain risk factors, such as, prior radiation therapy, repeated surgery, CSF leak, duration of surgery over 4h, interventions involving nasal sinuses and emergency surgeries. The standard treatment for infected craniotomies is bone flap discarding and delayed cranioplasty. Adequa...

OBJECTIVE To review the outcome of bifrontal decompressive craniotomy used for the treatment of malignant brain edema due to different etiologies. METHODS The study was carried out at King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the period from January 2000 to June 2005, and included all patients who had malignant brain edema due to different etiology and were treat...
متن کامل[Aseptic bone flap osteonecrosis following cranioplasty after decompressive cranietomy].
This case report discusses a case of aseptic osteonecrosis in a cranioplasty bone flap after decompressive craniectomy, which is a known, but rare complication after autologous cranioplasty. We suggest that the pathophysiology of cranial bone flap necrosis may have a similar pathophysiology to free flap necrosis/failure. The key suggested problem causing the osteonecrosis is vessel thrombosis w...
متن کاملBone flap preservation after decompressive craniectomy--experience with 55 cases.
We describe our experience with the previously described technique of preservation of the bone flap in a subgaleal pocket created over the intact side of the calvaria, discuss our experience of this method and review the literature to compare this method with other alternative techniques.
